Pakeezah is an award-winning Indian romantic drama directed by Nasreen Faruqui in 1995. It was filmed in Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi languages. Pakeezah is commonly considered to be among the best movies in India. It has received rave reviews from critics and the public alike, who have talked about it even today after its release. The movie was screened at various international film festivals around the world since its release including at the Chicago International Film Festival in 1996.This movie has been released on DVD video with English subtitles or dubbed into multiple languages by different local distributors, including Tamil for India, English for Canada, Spanish for Latin America and French for Europe among others. On the occasion of Pakeezah's DVD release, M.F.Hussain did an exclusive interview with the popular Canadian radio show host and columnist Dr. Gavin Crawford, which was aired on CBC radio 1, CBC television and Sirius Satellite radio in August 2004 to celebrate the movie's 10th anniversary DVD release. The movie's DVD was released by Future Media Concepts, Canada on August 31, 2004. A special DVD Kiosk Premiere Show was organized at the Toronto Eaton Centre on the same day. The show was attended by Nasreen Faruqui and M.F.Hussain along with other members of "Pakeezah's" cast and crew including Suhasini Mulay and Zeenat Aman. The DVD includes a Special After 10 Years Director's Cut with an exclusive interview of Nasreen Faruqui and M.F. Hussain, which aired on the Canadian television channel Movie Max. The Japanese DVD was released by Marvista Entertainment in 2005 with Japanese subtitles. The UK DVD was released by Indus Music UK in 2006 with Spanish subtitles. The UK DVD was re-released by Indus Music UK in 2009 with French subtitles. The Italian DVD is to be released shortly for Italy and Malta markets with Italian Subtitles.
